Materials Demonstrating Student Learning

Feedback on a Written Assignment

Hi [REDACTED],

As soon as the page loaded for your site, I was able to get an idea of who you are as a person. The picture you used immediately clued me in to who you are, which I imagine is a fun and whimsical person.

After clicking on the teaching statement tab, I specifically noticed three statements I thought were especially strong:

  1. "By proposing a phenomena and allowing students to ask questions and then create investigations to answer their questions, it shows them that they have the abilities to solve any problem that life might throw their way. "

  2. "By teaching them life skills such as planning for investigations, CER, group work, and the ability to try again after failure, it will allow them to transfer these skills into life after high school."

  3. "I also am open and honest when I do not know the answer. "

Areas for improvement:

  1. I think that using I statements creates a personal feel for your teaching statement and you should continue to use these statements. However, in the first paragraph you briefly go into second person by using "you" statements. You would have a stronger piece of work overall without these.

  2. I found this statement confusing:  "I model a growth mindset everyday by not always being right." How do you do this? Do you look things up? Do you try to re-solve problems if you don't get the answer right away?

  3. While the sentiment of this sentence shows off your sincerity and personality, there are some are some syntax issues with, "Everyday my students ask me such amazing deep thinking questions, that really drive our learning." You should keep it in, but reword it.

Overall, I found your statement sincere, and I could feel the passion you have for teaching.

Student Feedback for Educational Plans

[REDACTED] is an incredibly kind and hardworking student. My goal is to help [REDACTED] gain confidence in both math and on the SAT. I have noticed that she is now able to approach math and test prep practice questions with confidence. She is also willing to try new strategies and techniques. She still struggles with rushing through problems and not taking the time to step out each part. Going forward, I would like to work with [REDACTED] to maintain her newly found eagerness to work on problems and strengthen her strategy. I have seen amazing improvements in [REDACTED]!
